chipoudy communities revitalization committee
Picture
Chipoudy Communities Revitalization Committee (CCRC): That’s a mouthful – what’s it all about?

CCRC is a group of local residents from The Hillsborough end of the Albert Mines Road to Fundy National Park who share a vision of becoming experts on optimal rural living, and to bring inspiration and innovation to our local communities.

CCRC’s mission is to build a strong productive community that celebrates our diverse, historic landscape and resourceful people. We support economic development through preservation of our history and our environment, promotion of the arts, and beautification with the Fundy Biosphere including the “Four Windows of the Bay” – The Rocks Provincial Park, Cape Enrage, The Fundy Footpath and Fundy National Park.

The importance of giving back to the community has been demonstrated since gathering together in 2013.  With the proceeds from Chase the Ace being our main resource giving CCRC the ability to sponsor community events and projects and to partner with many different organizations.

At the AGM in 2018 a new board was formed with the same vision and mission and has continued to support the community.
With a new board comes new ideas and changes. The first change was Chase the Ace. After a request from community members, the CCRC decided to make tickets all one colour and tickets are now 3/$5 or 25/$25.

CCRC is grateful to the community and past board members for their dedication and support over the years. Without you CCRC would not be able to fulfill its objectives.

To express your ideas or concerns please contact:
Jim Campbell at 506-882-2960
or e-mail chipoudycrc@gmail.com

To see where proceeds from Chase the Ace have been distributed or to be updated on current CCRC projects please visit our Facebook Page  or our Website

foods of the fundy valley
Picture
Foods of the Fundy Valley is a non-profit organization founded in 2010, whose mission is to foster an environment that promotes the production and consumption of local foods and local goods in the Albert County Area.  We are governed by an elected Board of Directors and are supported by many kind and energetic volunteers throughout the community – farmers, bakers, innkeepers, teachers, business owners, accountants, cooks, bakers, scientists, artists… all of whom share a common love of food and community.

We believe that, to accomplish our mission, we need to start from the ground up.  We have established programs in partnership with the Hillsborough and Riverside Schools, to work with kids and teach them to grow, prepare, cook and eat fresh, nutritious food right from our soil.

Foods of the Fundy Valley facilitates a Community Food Smart program which is a bulk food-buying club for individuals and families who are interested in purchasing quality fruits and vegetables at affordable prices.  Community Food Smart operates through a network of community partners who collect orders, provide volunteers and distribute food bags to their members each month. Each food bag costs $15 and contains approximately $30-35 worth of produce at retail value.  There are four convenient order and pickup points throughout the area:  Fundy General Store in Alma, Albert County Health and Wellness Centre, Forest Dale Nursing Home and Crooked Creek Convenience in Riverside-Albert.

Food producers need an outlet for their goods, and residents need a place to go for local food, without having to make the long drive to Moncton or Sussex.  We host the Hillsborough Farmers’ Markets every Saturday from 8AM to 1PM in a beautiful, historic Church located at 2807 Main Street in Hillsborough during the summer season, from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving.  This market serves as a showcase for the many talented food producers, artisans and crafters from Albert County.  We have local meats, poultry, cheeses, breads and other baked goods, eggs, produce, preserves, plants, flowers, as well as hand-made arts and crafts.  The list of vendors is always growing. Come visit these markets and enjoy the camaraderie and fresh, local food!

Bee Wise Beekeepers is a committee within Foods of the Fundy Valley that includes members ranging from novice, non- beekeepers, all the way up to commercial producers for the Fundy Valley and Greater Moncton area.  Ages run from high school students through to retired enthusiasts. The committee meets monthly to discuss various beekeeping topics with guest speakers.  Items of note so far are demonstrations on honey extraction, making mead, building a bee hive and bees wax rendering and products.  The Bee Wise Beekeepers mandate is to provide a forum for education, engagement and experience for those interested in learning more about beekeeping through regular meetings, workshops, idea sharing discussions and socializing.  We wish to increase community awareness of the importance of bees to our food supply.  The committee has successfully planted an orchard consisting of apples, pears and cherry trees in Hillsborough through a grant from Tree Canada with a fixed bee hive in that location as well.

Finally, because we are proud of the seafood, meats, poultry, fruits and vegetables grown in our local area, as well as the preserves, baked goods, condiments and other food related items produced within our community, we have developed the Fundy Fresh logo that our business members can proudly display in their places of business.  We will also have Fundy Fresh labels that producers can use to distinguish their products as locally grown or made.  So next time you see the Fundy Fresh label on a delectable food item, you’ll know that it was produced right here in your own back yard.

If you share our passion and interest in food and community, we invite you to join Foods of the Fundy Valley!  Annual membership dues are $5 for an individual or $25 for a business.  Membership gives you a voice in our governance and programs and puts you in touch with your like-minded neighbours.  We also have the best AGM Soup Bar in the County!

forest dale home
Picture
In January 1980, Forest Dale Nursing Home officially opened in Riverside-Albert and has well served the needs for resident care for over thirty years. However, eventually the time had come when a new facility was needed. It was an exciting time for the community when the New Brunswick government announced that a new nursing home would be built. It was even more exciting when the actual construction of the new facility began…..everyone watched and waited patiently until the new home was completed at last!

In October 2011, the Forest Dale residents were moved into the newly constructed Forest Dale Nursing Home, which is situated on the property behind the original home. The new home serves 50 residents with 40 private rooms and five semi-private rooms located in two duplicate wings. Each wing is equipped with various visiting and recreational areas, which create a friendly, homelike environment.

The Home employs over 75 people and contributes to the local economy.  A clinic room is used for services for both the residents of Forest Dale as well as the community, with such services as foot care and hearing aid service.  A large activity room is available for community events including birthday parties, fashion shows and music nights,

friendship seniors club
Friendship Seniors Club meets the 3rd Monday at 1pm at the Riverside-Albert Recreation Centre. We are always ready to welcome new members. Membership is $10. January is our annual meeting.

We have had very successful Christmas turkey dinners for the last two years. We used the money to help with Forest Dale Home’s cable for residents program. We also support Mental Health’s Christmas Gifts for their Special People Fund. We pay a yearly fee for the use of our own room at the Rec Centre.

Joan Weir leads a gerifitness program every Wednesday morning at the Rec Centre. Everyone is welcome to come. Registration fee is $25 and runs from September to May.

We invite knowledgeable people from the surrounding area to bring a program to us on items of interest to our members. For example, in January 2015, Phyllis Hudson told us about changes at the Wellness Centre to improve “getting to see your doctor on a day when you become ill andTheresa O’Hara showed us how to use the defibrillators.

We have gone to Grand Manan on a bus trip and were able to pay for a portion of the bus tickets. We are now looking for suggestions for our upcoming trip. Again, we have money to help with the cost.

Join us and see if you are interested in joining our meetings on the 3rd Monday of the month.

fundy biosphere reserve
The Bay of Fundy and its adjacent landscape forms a unique region in its geological formations, terrestrial and marine ecosystems, cultural heritage, as well as a variety of rural communities and urban areas. It compares with more than 631 unique landscapes in 119 countries in the world that have been recognized as World UNESCO biosphere sites.

fundy curling club
In 1962 Dr. John Steeves led a group of local area residents in an effort to create a multi-purpose recreational facility in Riverside-Albert. Eventually they settled on a curling club which was incorporated as the Fundy Curling Club in 1962.

About a year later, Dr. Steeves and local resident Lee Cameron were interviewed at the CKCW television studio in Moncton to update the progress of the club. By 1964 curling was taking place.

By 1971, a used ice making plant was purchased and the clubhouse size was doubled by the mid-1970s. An additional expansion took place in the mid 1980s and new curling stones were also purchased. In 2012, Fundy Curling Club celebrated its 50th anniversary. The club continues to operate despite a shrinking population and maintenance challenges.

The Fundy Curling Club in Riverside-Albert has regularly scheduled curling Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with special events such as bonspiels and pay-per-use for community groups on Mondays and Saturdays.

TELE-DRIVE ALBERT COUNTY
Purpose:  To help Rural Albert County residents get  to their much needed Medical Appointments, to help reduce isolation, and to increase their independence.

Even though the Canadian rural landscape promises the experience of serenity and peace and an escape from the hectic life style of urban centres it neglects to point out the obvious, that rural living also promotes isolation, loneliness and emotional hardships for those residents who are not able to afford vehicles , barely being able to survive nutritionally and are often in poor health.

One of the most glaring needs is the necessity for transportation to ensure that affordable transportation is provided to those who require the services of health care professionals, food banks, job fairs and at times legal appointments as well as day care and social activities.

Tele-Drive was created to bring this service to the rural Albert County residents. It was designed to provide affordable transportation to our smaller communities with door-to-door pick-up service.

Our target groups are, seniors, single parents, families with no transportation, individuals who do not possess a drivers license, residents who are unable to access the very minimum of care to sustain them in their homes and to ensure independence and hopefully quality of life.

A service such as this is traditionally provided for by the regional, provincial and federal government, however due to fiscal consideration, i.e. it would not be a money-generating service in the Albert County area such service has never been implemented.

Tele-Drive Albert County, Inc. is now a registered charity.
All our charitable activities are a part of the Provincial Poverty Reduction Plan.

Tele-Drive Inc. has done extensive research and came up with a solution which has benefited the Albert County residents in many ways.

1.  Increases the individual’s independence.
2.  Transporting isolated seniors to their much needed medical appointments, food banks, and even to hair appointments for the first time in many years.
3.  One-car households-we provide transportation for family so their 4-year-old can attend preschool three times a week, where the child was unable to attend before due to no way to get there.

Our service is staffed with volunteer drivers (to date we have 25 volunteers) , who generously donate their time and their vehicles to pick up users of the service at their homes and to take them to healthcare facilities, healthcare providers, food banks, grocery stores, day-care, job and training opportunities

Our first priority is to provide service to those with little or no access to transportation – due to geographic isolation, lack of accessible transport, affordability, or other issues.

Tele-Drive provides volunteer drivers disabled parking permits, as well as First Aid Kits, picture driver ID cards and for the more active drivers advertising magnets for their vehicles, and we have spill kits available (kitty litter, bags, gloves, alcohol wipes).

Users of the service:   Individuals contact us by word of mouth, social development, churches, food banks, doctor offices, social workers at the Moncton and Georges Dumont Hospital, addiction services, discharge planners at the Moncton Hospital.  Tele-Drive meets with the individual to see what the needs are and to go over the Client agreement with him/her, and answer any questions the individual may have. Users pay an administration fee of $10/month; if they are unable to pay the $10 fee, we now waive it.

The process:
• Members/riders will call to reserve a ride 48 hours in advance.
• Dispatcher will arrange rides matching volunteer drivers and service providers against ride requests.
• Drivers will use their own vehicles, and be reimbursed for mileage by Tele-Drive.

For more information please call 875-1190, e-mail teledriveac@gmail.com or visit the Facebook page.
WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION FOR ALBERT COUNTY
Picture
Water and Environmental Protection for Albert County (WEPAC) is a group of concerned citizens who believe that we must consciously take better care of our natural resources to ensure a vibrant future for our children and a prosperous future for our community. We are your neighbours, friends, relatives.  Just like you, we are homeowners, taxpayers, retired folk, professionals, entrepreneurs, employees, students, moms, dads, grandparents.

Our slogan is ‘Protecting What’s Important‘.

We were mobilized by the threat of fossil fuel development in our region and what this meant to our communities, and embarked on an awareness campaign to fill in the knowledge gaps. Since then, we have also become concerned with the mismanagement of crown forests and the impacts of both industries on climate change. Because problems need solutions, we make every effort to support and present viable alternatives for economic development that do not contribute greenhouse gases, are sustainable, and respect that our natural resources are finite and cannot be replaced.  Our website is
www.wepac.ca; our Facebook site is
