by Chandra Smith A great summertime activity. The Hillsborough Women’s Institute has put up a book walk on the trail behind the Tourist bureau in Hillsborough entitled "Be a Pond Detective". There are 10 stakes on the trail and it is suitable for children of all ages. Morning or evening walks provide more activity of living birds and animals. The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Club is All Aboard! This year, children are invited to READ, DISCOVER, CREATE, and celebrate all methods of transportation at the library. The Summer Reading Club is designed to encourage young people to read over the summer holidays. When they register, participants receive a reading logbook in which they can keep track of their reading throughout the summer, along with activities they can do at home. During the months of June, July and August, all public libraries in the province will present various fun and entertaining activities. Participants will receive a certificate of achievement at the end of the summer. This year, children are invited to READ, DISCOVER, CREATE, and celebrate all methods of transportation at the library. The Playground Committee is pleased to advise that the playground equipment has been ordered and our initial deposit made. We are delighted to announce that we anticipate the equipment to arrive as early as September 2022 for installation. We are thankful to have been able to partner with the Village of Riverside-Albert. The Village graciously applied for the ACOA grant last November and we were very excited to be notified in March that it had been approved! Thanks to our amazing grant writer and the community support we have been blessed with, we now look forward to completing a new community playground for all to enjoy. by Nancy Land The NB Children’s Foundation has once again generously supported the Literacy Express program for preschoolers with a grant of $4,700.00 to the Village of Hillsborough, which sponsors and hosts the program in the Hillsborough Train Station. This is the fourth award that the Foundation has made to the program since it began in 2013. Also, we extend a big thank you to the Bennett and Albert County Health Care Foundation, which awarded $1,000.00 to the program earlier this year! This was also the fourth time the BACH Foundation has made an award in support of this program and its work with preschoolers from various parts of Albert County. The Grass Roots Community Economic Development Co-operative (CEDC) would like to thank everyone who participated in our webinars and meetings over the summer as we explained the Community Economic Development investment fund being developed for rural communities in Albert and Westmorland counties. CEDCs are a way for ordinary New Brunswickers to invest in their local businesses and economy and receive 50% of their investment back through a tax credit on their provincial income tax. These funds are RRSP and TFSA eligible so you may be able to redirect your existing investments and get the benefits of both. In February, Connecting Albert County and Friends of Fundy will publish the Community Directory for Rural Albert County. A draft is available at www.ConnectingAlbertCounty.org/guide.html.
If you represent a community organization or offer a service that contributes to community health, please check the directory. To add an organization, please complete the form at airtable.com/shrY3f8cufkrNcWEm. To correct a listing, please email info@connectingalbertcounty.org. By Zoey Hughes, Cyber PR Army
