Sport NB has partnered with SafeZone—a confidential, supportive space designed to help athletes, coaches, parents, officials, and club representatives navigate concerns, conflicts, and the complaint process. Whether you’re unsure about how to resolve a conflict, have experienced or witnessed inappropriate behavior, or simply have questions about the complaint process, SafeZone is here to help.

What SafeZone Offers:

A confidential and non-judgmental space to share concerns and ask questions.

Emotional support and guidance for those experiencing or witnessing maltreatment, harassment, bullying, or abuse.
Clear information on Sport NB’s complaint processes, jurisdiction, and additional resources.
Help in understanding options and next steps—without pressure to file a formal complaint.

The New Brunswick Senior Citizens’ Federation (NBSCF) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025, at the Legends Room of the Moncton Coliseum. The event brought together numerous members, partners, and special guests for a day of discussion and reflection on senior issues.

Moncton Deputy Mayor Paulette Thériault addressed the gathering, reminding everyone that "ageing should not be a challenge but a time of well-being." Her inspiring message resonated with participants, highlighting the importance of supporting seniors in their continued growth.

If you’ve been to the health centre lately, you will have noticed that we’ve rearranged a few things and moved some people around. This is because our heating system, which has reached end of life, as well as lighting throughout the building are being replaced. The project has been split into seven phases, with phase one having started in March.

Members of the Bennett and Albert County Health Care Foundation Inc. held their annual general meeting at the Riverside-Albert Recreation Centre yesterday evening.

We were pleased that Fundy Albert Mayor Jim Campbell, Ward 1 Councillor David Garden and Ward 2 Councillor Loretta Elderkin were in attendance. Frances Leblanc, CEO of the Friends Foundation was also in attendance.

Our guest speaker, Shelly Hudson-McNaught, coordinator of the Nursing Homes Without Walls for Fundy Albert shared a program update, as well as plans to hold a Seniors Expo on June 11th from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Riverside-Albert Rec Centre.

Healthcare in Rural Communities Part VI

I ended Part 5 by promising to talk about gaining support from higher-level community leaders. As the day approached for the first Screening Clinic, the team rationalized the need to advertise and to assure that key area community leaders endorsed the initiative. We agreed to create posters, Facebook postings, and place articles in the Local News and Views (the community newspaper). I reached out to MLA for Sussex-Three Rivers, Tammy Scott-Wallace, MP for Fundy Royal, Robert Moore, the Community of Three Rivers Mayor, Peter Saunders, and Sherry Wilson, MLA for Albert-Riverview Riding.

The Elgin Seniors Center was chosen as the best location for the clinics because the building remains open all year round, it has washroom facilities, storage for clinic equipment, a full kitchen, an open space to set up the privacy walls, and room for individuals waiting to be screened.

211 NB Assists Older Adults Seeking Connection

A 211 Service Navigator took a call from an older adult from Moncton, New Brunswick. He let the Service Navigator know that he was feeling lonely and isolated lately. It was not easy for him to leave his home, but he really wanted to talk to someone about how he felt. He did not want to harm himself; he just wanted to connect with someone to share how he was feeling.

The Service Navigator expressed her empathy – it was so hard to feel isolated. She said that she could help him find a place where he could connect with someone to talk to. They talked about options, and he liked the idea of a helpline where seniors could talk about their situations and emotions.

The Service Navigator told him about A Friendly Voice, a service for seniors. He wanted the Service Navigator to connect him to that resource. First, she made sure that he had the phone number for future reference, and let him know that he could call 211 again anytime if he needed more help. Then, with his permission, she made a warm transfer to A Friendly Voice so he could talk to someone right away. Healthcare in Rural Communities: Part Five

I ended Part 4 by promising to delve more into getting the clinics fully operational to include promoting this to the community. With the buy-in from the Elgin Seniors Club and the Elgin Women’s Institute firmly in hand, we began solidly building on the next steps. Buy-in from the Seniors Club and the Women’s Institute was critical as these groups have the best understanding of the needs and the pulse of the community given their volunteer work. Moreover, concurrently I was involved in planning meetings and discussions on conducting the next iteration of the Community Health Needs Assessment in the Salisbury, Havelock, Elgin and Petitcodiac (SHEP) region (including surrounding communities). In fact, I am pleased to include a link to the final report based on the research conducted by the Horizon Health Network.

If you’ve been to the health centre lately, you will have noticed that we’ve rearranged a few things and moved some people around. This is because our heating system, which has reached end of life, as well as lighting throughout the building are being replaced. The project has been split into seven phases, with phase one having started in March.

Mid-May will see us transition to phase two which will change the flow of traffic in the building. The main entrance, waiting area, and main reception will be closed for this phase of renos. Patients and public will be redirected to the Ambulance/Physiotherapy door at the end of the building and the temporary reception and waiting area will be in the Physiotherapy spaces until the end of this phase.

As we progress trough the remaining phases of this major renovation, I will provide further updates to keep you informed of changes in how you access our services and travel through the building.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all adapt to these temporary changes.

Footloose in Fundy Albert is Back and Needs You!

Footloose in Fundy Albert is back - and this year we want to take home the big prize: $100,000!

The ParticipACTION Community Challenge is a fun, nation-wide event that takes place every June. People, schools, businesses, and organizations from all over Canada join in to help their community become Canada’s Most Active Community. The community with the most activity could win $100,000 to support local sports and recreation. There are also smaller weekly prizes and grants of up to $1,500 to help make sure everyone has a chance to join, especially people who face barriers. Everyone can track their physical activity using the ParticipACTION app or website.
