Sing for Unity: Join us on a Global Musical Moment for Peace

We often feel helpless or even overwhelmed in the shadow and divisiveness of world events, but we can still make a difference by focusing on community. Even small actions can enrich relationships and spread peace. In this spirit, on International Day of Peace, September 21st, 2025 people around the world will unite in song to celebrate peace, community, and shared humanity. At exactly 2PM local time, choirs and individuals across continents will sing together to send a message that resonates far and wide:

We are One World. One People.

Local Gathering at Mary’s Point Interpretive Centre

Here in Fundy-Albert, we’ll gather on the lawn of the Mary’s Point Interpretive Centre (415 Mary’s Point Rd), a place where land, marsh, and sea merge, echoing the themes of migration and connection. Three stone monuments inscribed in Mi’kmaq, French, and English stand there as symbols of our region’s earliest cultures and shared heritage. As we sing, our voices will rise and ripple across the Bay of Fundy.

We are excited to re-launch the Horizon Community Health Grant (formerly Coin-G). Thank you all for your patience as the processes have been under revision. I hope you’ll find this process to be a smooth one with one streamlined application that you can apply for at any time as long as funds are available.

Horizon’s Community Health Grant (HCHG) is a low-barrier funding initiative administered by Horizon Health Network’s Department of Community Health. Grants are awarded to communities served by Horizon Health to support projects with a targeted impact on the social determinants of health.

To increase equity and efficiency for community organizations in applying for these funds, Horizon’s Community Health Grant will now accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the year, with up to $2500 approved for each application.

Medication and Financial Help Needed for Called with a Chronic Illness Submitted

A 211 caller was struggling financially, having to choose between paying for their diabetes medication or food. They were also behind on utilities. They were homeowners, so were not eligible for certain financial benefits.

The Service Navigator empathized with the caller, which brought down their frustration level. They then gave the caller the phone number to inquire about the Emergency Fuel Benefit (EFB) and explained this benefit. Regarding medication, the Service Navigator mentioned the possibility of inquiring about getting a White Card with their doctor’s help. Although the White Card is for social assistance recipients, doctors can advocate for low income clients. The caller also mentioned their Employment Insurance (EI) claim had been wrongfully denied, so the Service Navigator referred for assistance in appealing the claim.

Not that many decades ago, there was no way to protect yourself from devastating diseases such as polio, diptheria, tetanus and meningitis, or wildly contagious infections such as measles. Outcomes were tragic. Lifelong paralysis, stillbirth, neurodegenerative disease, encephalitis, even death.

Vaccines changed this landscape. As time progressed, more and more diseases became preventable by vaccination, and health outcomes greatly improved.

Vaccines contain a component or weakened form of a bacteria or viruses. The component or weakened form of bacteria or virus in the vaccine Does Not cause disease.

CAC In Conversation Part 1: Bennett & Albert County Healthcare Foundation's Phyllis Hudson & Robert Rochon

The Bennett and Albert County Health Care (BACH) Foundation has been steadily and consistently supporting the health and wellness of rural Albert County since 1974 and is a major sponsor of Connecting Albert County. As is explained on the BACH Foundation website (www.bachFoundation.com/history), Judge Albert Watson Bennett was born in Hopewell Cape in 1864, and throughout his career, he became acutely aware of the inequalities in health services. He made a significant bequest in his will to the Albert County Hospital, which was given in 1973 following his wife’s passing. The “Friends of the Albert County Hospital Inc” was established to receive and manage gifts and bequests, and as the healthcare world changed, so did this organization. Over twenty years later, the efforts of this organization culminated with the incorporation of the Bennett and Albert County Hospital Foundation as a registered charity.
