Productive conversations can help inform our community leaders of issues they might not realize exist in their communities. When done right, these discussions can be helpful and informative and can bring people together on a common goal.
Expressing your concerns in a respectful way, via meetings, calls or letters to your elected officials, helps them to understand the needs in their community and they can use this information when deciding how and when to fund projects. They need this information as much as you need to be heard. Here are some ways you can engage with officials in your area:
Write a letter. If you’re better expressing yourself in writing, write a letter or email to your official. You can add some impact by having others review and sign it as well.
Use Facebook productively. There are so many community Facebook pages where you can rally like-minded individuals around a cause that’s important to you. Instead of leaving a comment about a frustration that will ultimately not be seen or solved on a Facebook post, use Facebook to bring folks together around that frustration to write a letter together, sign a petition, or meet up to brainstorms solutions together. Please remember when you’re engaging with our councillors, MLAs, or MPs, that we’re all just human beings trying to navigate this wild world together. Respect and kindness go a long way when having these important discussions. Additionally, I’m always available to lend an ear and explore solutions to community concerns. Reach out any time!
