The 2026 curling season at the FCC has been a whirlwind of activity and it is time to get everyone caught up on what has happened so far and what is ahead for March and into April.
Our introduction to stick curling sessions went extremely well and we now have an enthusiastic group of curlers aged 55 and up playing in the Tuesday daytime stick curling league. This form of curling is played in teams of 2, is fast paced and exciting without the sweeping, bending and sliding of traditional curling. Thanks to all the players who have jumped into this new league to make it a success. This year’s pilot project will no doubt be turned into a full blown stick curling league in 2027!
Hot on the heels of the mixed bonspiel 10 teams took to the ice for our open bonspiel held on February 27th and 28th. At the time of writing the results of this event were not yet known so you will have to wait in suspense until the next issue of Connecting Albert County to find out who came out on top in what was surely a hotly contested final game!
As we slide through March we are all looking forward to our Women’s Bonspiel to be held on Saturday March 14th. Last year’s event was a huge success and everyone is looking forward to watching the FCC’s finest female curlers shooting it out in this one day bonspiel. If you are out and about on March 14th and want to check out some amazing curling please drop in to the club and cheer the ladies on!
Looking ahead to April there is a lot of buzz and interest in our 2nd annual Human Bonspiel Fundraiser being held on Saturday April 4th. Last year’s inaugural event, in which participants became the curling stones by sitting in plastic saucers and pushed down the ice, attracted nationwide attention being broadcast on both CTV and CBC news! This put our club in Canada’s spotlight and this year’s event will be even bigger and better! This fantastic fundraiser is a day full of fun and laughs and we would love to see as many community members take part as possible as no experience being a human curling stone is required. It is open to both members and non-members of the FCC. To register your team of 4 or for more information on the Human Bonspiel please email [email protected]
Until next time, remember to release your rocks before the hog line and no double touches!
