With the sap running, rain showers falling and birds migrating back to New Brunswick it is the time to wrap up what has been an incredible season for the Fundy Curling Club!
When the traditional curling season came to an end at the start of April, it was time to pack away the thirty two 44 pound curling stones and break out the plastic snow saucers to make way for our gang of wild and wacky Human Bonspiel participants! The FCC is the home of Canada's Original Human Bonspiel and this year’s event, held on April 4th, attracted a record number of 48 brave souls who careened down the ice at breakneck speeds all the while being cheered on by family and friends. The day started off with Ian Duncan bagpiping all the players onto the ice and our special guest the Easter Bunny donning ice skates to entertain the crowd during the opening ceremonies.
The FCC would like to congratulate Summer Steeves as the recipient of the 2026 FCC student bursary which goes to a U18 curling program participant graduating from high school. Summer started curling at the club the very first year we introduced Little Rocks when she was just 8 years old. She has stuck with it ever since and through her dedication and commitment to our Little Rocks and U18 programs she has become a wonderful role model to young kids getting involved in the sport. The entire club wishes Summer all the best as she pursues her nursing degree at NBCC in Miramichi starting in the fall.
Community support and volunteerism are at the heart of the FCC and without both the club simply would not exist. We are constantly amazed at the folks who come out of the woodwork to lend a hand when a need arises. Being part of a curling club that is 100% volunteer operated is something special and we are extremely grateful to everyone who helps make the Fundy Curling Club the amazing place that it is. It is probably not said enough…but thank you for all you do!
As the weather continues to warm be sure to stop in for our continuing Chase the Ace Fundraiser every Friday night at the club starting at 6:00pm (continued on page 16...) with the draw at 7:30pm. Supper will be available some evenings, so be sure to check our Facebook page to see if you can skip the dishes. If you are looking for a freshly renovated space to hold your next family reunion, baby or wedding shower, milestone birthday, wedding, or whatever event you just don’t have the room for at home, then look no further than renting the FCC clubhouse. The clubhouse can be rented anytime from now until January with or without bar service. For details and information please email [email protected]. Enjoy the upcoming summer weather and see you in November!
