For more than 57 years, the New Brunswick Senior Citizens’ Federation (NBSCF) has stood as the steadfast voice of older adults across the province. From humble beginnings to a province-wide network representing thousands of members, the Federation has never wavered in its commitment to protect the rights of seniors, demand fair treatment, and ensure that the contributions of older New Brunswickers are respected and valued.
Behind every resolution passed at our Annual General Meetings, every petition circulated, every meeting with elected officials, and every conversation with frontline service providers is a clear and unwavering purpose: to create a province where seniors can age with dignity, security, and independence. Our work is not just about defending what exists—it’s about building a better future.
Over the decades, the NBSCF has been instrumental in shaping many of the services that seniors now rely on, from access to health care and financial aid to housing support and elder protection measures. These victories didn’t happen overnight; they are the result of consistent, determined advocacy powered by the voices of seniors from every corner of New Brunswick.
But we’re not resting on our past accomplishments.
Each year, we actively consult our members and local clubs to determine what issues matter most right now. Your input directly informs our priorities—whether that means advocating for free eye exams for seniors, fighting for stronger public pensions, expanding access to home care, or ensuring that vital vaccines like those for Shingles are freely available to older adults. These are not just policy goals—they are necessities for aging well.
We also push for common-sense reforms that reduce red tape and make it easier for seniors to access the help they need. One recent example: now, when applying for financial aid from the province, seniors can simply authorize the government to retrieve income information directly from the CRA—eliminating the stress and delay of having to provide it themselves.
Beyond frontline advocacy, we continue to shine a light on larger, long-standing issues: understaffed nursing homes, the closure of rural hospital ERs, rising rent and food costs, and the lack of affordable, senior-friendly housing options in many communities.
At the same time, we work to educate, inform, and connect seniors through programs like New Horizons for Seniors. These initiatives allow us to deliver workshops across the province on vital topics like fraud awareness, medication safety, senior leadership, and digital literacy. Staying engaged and informed is as important to well-being as access to services.
And there are added benefits too: members of the NBSCF enjoy access to a range of practical tools, such as preferred-rate insurance plans, home security systems, and discounts at restaurants, hotels and stores across New Brunswick—helping your budget go further.
The Federation’s message is clear and unwavering: our seniors matter. Their concerns matter. Their well-being matters. And as long as challenges remain, the NBSCF will be there—listening, advocating, and acting with the strength of our 11,000+ members behind every step forward.
