The team recently welcomed Mia, a new dietitian who will work alongside Health Promoter Kaitlyn Christie to support local communities through education, workshops, and community programming focused on healthy living and nutrition.
Support is available on a variety of topics, including eating disorders and body image, nutrition for seniors, healthy eating during pregnancy and postpartum, introducing solids for infants, pediatric and family nutrition, chronic disease prevention, meal planning, budgeting, label reading, and intuitive eating approaches.
The team says it has capacity to assist with workshops, discussions, and community programming tailored to local needs. Schools and seniors’ groups are among the organizations that may benefit from additional nutrition education and support.
Alongside nutrition services, Kaitlyn Christie’s work as a Health Promoter focuses on the social determinants of health — the social and economic factors that can affect overall well-being. These include income, education, employment, housing, social supports, healthy behaviours, and access to health services.
Public Health staff are currently meeting with individuals, organizations, and service providers throughout the region to better understand local needs and identify opportunities for collaboration.
Community members and organizations interested in partnering on projects or learning more about available supports are encouraged to reach out.
