Even though the days are getting longer, the sap is running and the temperature is rising, the action at the Fundy Curling Club is far from cooling off!
March came in like a lion as ten teams descended on the finest two sheet curling facility in New Brunswick to compete in the FCC Open Bonspiel. Held over two days everyone was eager to get out on the ice in an effort to make it to the finals. After exciting preliminary games, spectators who packed the club were treated to a classic shoot out with the team of Leo Sheehy, Chris Keirstead, Gary Collins and Ivan Keirstead emerging victorious.

Just when we thought the energy level may have peaked at the ladies bonspiel, our youth curling finale raised the roof with enthusiasm on Sunday March 16th! This was an incredible year for youth curling with 27 kids between the ages of 6 and 18 registered for the ten week program. Little Rockers heated up the ice surface first culminating with parents, grandparents and friends joining the kids on the ice to cheer them on as they made their last fantastic shots of the season. Next up was our outstanding U18 team taking on some of our more senior men and women members in an intergenerational shootout. The six end game came down to the final rock with the U18 team making a spectacular last shot to score four points and win the game 7 to 6! Congratulations to all our youth curlers for their hard work and dedication to the program. Thank you to Fundy Tourism for sponsoring our season ending party including food and awards for the participants!
April showers may bring May flowers but we know for sure that at the FCC April is bringing two unique fundraising events you do not want to miss out on. Both events will start mid-afternoon and go into the early evening. For those not entering teams, spectators are more than welcome so please come out and join in on the fun.
Our inaugural Human Bonspiel is on Saturday April 5th and we could not be more excited to host the first bonspiel of its kind in New Brunswick …that we know of! Instead of delivering curling stones, teams of four will be delivering their teammates down the ice surface as they sit on a snow saucer in an attempt to draw to the button. The cost for a team of 4 is $100.00 and includes a guaranteed 3 human curling games, a gang size Sapranos pizza for each team, snacks and prizes!
The second annual FCC indoor washer toss tournament is scheduled for Saturday April 26th. Registration is limited to the first 20 teams. The cost for a team of 2 is $30.00 and includes a guaranteed 3 games, snacks and prizes. There will be a cash BBQ.
Both fundraising events are for ages 19 and up and are sure to book up quickly so don’t delay in registering. For more information or to register for the April fundraisers please email [email protected] or call Alan at 506-882-1182.
Until next time, remember only one sweeper after the tee line! And Elbows Up!
