Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion: Skin rash, muscle cramps, dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting, heavy sweating, headache, extreme thirst or decreased urination.
*If you experience any of these symptoms during extreme heat, immediately move to a cool place and drink water.
Symptoms of Heat stroke: High body temperature, confusion/lack of coordination, dizziness/fainting, no sweating but very hot, red skin.
*Heat stroke is a medical emergency- Call 911. While awaiting assistance from first responders, move the person to a cool location, add cool wet towels and use a fan. See www.canada.ca Extreme Heat Tab
-Older adults may be at increased risk for heat related illness due to medication that may interfere with the body's cooling system and/or chronic illnesses.
-infants and young children
-people who are active or employed in outdoor settings
Tip #1 Keep aware of weather forecasts and plan summer activities accordingly
Tip #2 Know these signs of heat-related illnesses
Tip #3 Check on neighbours and friends who have chronic illness or are isolated to ensure they are keeping themselves cool and hydrated
