Due to popular demand, we are offering another Barn Quilt workshop November 7, 2026.
Barn Quilts Trails inspire rural communities across Canada to appreciate and market their assets via barn quilts. This eye-catching folk art attracts visitors and helps our rural communities put themselves on the map. There are a surprising number of tourists who look for and drive Barn Quilt Trails throughout North America. This is a thriving tourism attraction.
Barn Quilts are usually square pieces of wood or metal, with a design that may often have been seen on a cloth quilt, painted in bright colors. 2x2 feet, 4x4 or even 8x8. If you travel to Sussex, you may see a very large one on Cobbler’s Lane. Kings County has a Barn Quilt Trail, which connects to the larger trail through Canada and even into the middle states of the US.
To coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Albert County Museum’s Quilt Show and Sale, we offered the first BQT workshop last fall, and Victoria Day Weekend marked the launch of our very own Albert County Barn Quilt Trail. There is a panel in the Locator Map showing where all the quilts can be found in Fundy Albert.

We have been told that people are stopping to take pictures, and chat about the Barn Quilts with the owners/designers if they are out, or more especially, if they are business owners. We have the same specialist in Barn Quilts, Lorette Cole coming to the museum Nov. 7 to help you complete your OWN block, ready to mount on your business. She will bring the 2x2 boards, pre-primed and ready to paint. SHE BRINGS THE PAINT, too! Participants will draw their design and paint 2 coats during the day. They also get paint to bring home to add a third coat a week later after the first 2 coats are cured. Class starts at 9am and concludes before 4. (bring our own lunch, but drinks and snacks will be provided). For only $85 you will have a beautiful addition to your business, as well as being part of something truly “big”.

What about a design? Pinterest has loads, or google Barn Quilts, look at the Kings’ County trail for inspiration. We do need to let our instructor know soon what design you have chosen, and the 3-4 colors you’d like to use, so she will be prepared. (simple is best for your first design) The design you choose need not directly relate to the type of business you own.
