With the cost of everyday life continuing to rise, saving 10% or 20% here and there can make a difference. Fortunately, there are still some worthwhile senior discounts available—you just have to know where to find them.
We have verified the offers below. These discounts and benefits were confirmed as available as of August 2026. Programs can change, so it is always a good idea to confirm before making a special trip or booking.
Shoppers Drug Mart continues to offer its popular Seniors' Day every Thursday. Eligible seniors who use a PC Optimum card or app can receive 20% off almost all regular-priced merchandise, with certain exclusions. Since the discount generally applies to regular-priced merchandise, compare it with any sale price being offered.
M&M Food Market – 10% off on Tuesdays
M&M Food Market offers customers over 60 a 10% discount every Tuesday on regular-priced items. The discount is available at M&M Food Market stores and can also be applied to eligible online orders placed on Tuesday. Simply choosing Tuesday as your shopping day could mean worthwhile savings over the course of a year.
Irving Big Stop – a menu for guests 55+
Irving Big Stop restaurants offer a seniors' menu for guests aged 55 and over, featuring smaller portions of familiar Big Stop favourites at lower prices. Selections can vary, so ask to see the seniors' menu when you visit.
Michaels – 10% off every day
Customers 55 and older can receive 10% off eligible purchases every day at Michaels, including many sale-priced items. Registration and age verification through Michaels Rewards are required, and some exclusions apply.
Salvation Army Thrift Store – 10% off every day
At participating Salvation Army Thrift Store locations, shoppers 60 and older receive 10% off every day. When you donate gently used clothing or household items, you can also receive a 20% off coupon toward a future purchase. The senior discount and promotional offers cannot be combined, so use whichever provides the better saving.
Travelling? Remember your NBSCF hotel benefits
Your NBSCF membership can also help you save when travelling. These special rates are reserved for current NBSCF members, who must show a valid membership card when registering at the hotel.
At Days Inn, provide Corporate ID #1000050639 when making your reservation to access the Federation's preferred rate.
At Rodd Hotels & Resorts, ask for the General Corporate Rate available to NBSCF members.
Rodd also offers a senior rate for guests aged 60 and over, so ask which rate provides the better deal for your travel dates.
And don't forget Co-operators
As introduced in our last issue, current NBSCF members have access to preferred group rates on home and auto insurance through Co-operators. Mention your NBSCF membership and use verification code NBSCF1968 when requesting a quote. A current NBSCF membership card is required as proof of membership when registering for the group program. For information or a quote, call 1-800-387-1963.
The easiest money-saving question of all!
These are only a few examples. Many businesses, restaurants, hotels, attractions, museums and recreation facilities offer senior rates that aren't always prominently advertised. One of the easiest money-saving habits you can develop is simply to show your NBSCF membership card and ask:
“Do you offer a senior discount?”
And don't assume you aren't old enough! As the examples above show, a senior discount may begin at 55, 60 or another age, depending on the business.
Finally, a senior or membership discount isn't automatically the best deal. Compare sale prices, promotions, loyalty points and other offers before buying or booking.
A little saved here and a little saved there can eventually become a lot—and sometimes all you have to do is ask!
