
The King Charles III Coronation Medal was recently awarded to four deserving Fundy Albert residents. MP for Fundy Royal, Hon. Rob Moore, was “ … very proud … to present the King Charles III Coronation Medal to: “Jeff Land” of Hopewell Cape, “Dawne McLean” of Shepody, “Darrell Weir” and “Kathryn Weir”, both of Riverside-Albert. The presentation took place February 20th in the Brookside Room at the Forest Dale Home in Riverside Albert.
The Coronation of King Charles III on May 6 2023 was the first to be acknowledged by a “domestic Commemorative Medal” designed and minted in Canada. The Medal highlights the shared values of “service, the environment and sustainability, and our nation’s diversity”. Since its unveiling by Governor General Mary Simon May 6 2024, it has been awarded to 30, 000 Canadians of “all ages and from all walks of life who have made a difference in their communities”.
DAWNE MCLEAN has “enriched the region in both professional and personal endeavours” with “her unwavering commitment to giving back to community.” Dawne taught 30 years at Riverside Consolidated School and following retirement was Regional Heritage Fair Coordinator for Anglophone East Schools for 17 years. She served on the Forest Dale Home Foundation Board and as a Director on the Albert County Exhibition Board, coordinated the Queen Pageant for 40 years. She organizes the Annual “Love Your Covered Bridges Day” at Sawmill Creek Covered Bridge. A Director of 30 years and current President of the Albert County Historical Society (ACHS), Dawne has “brought local history to life” for audiences of all ages and also shares her gift of music.
DARRELL WEIR has been “a lifeline for his community” as a Volunteer Fire-fighter, including Chief, Deputy-Chief and Training Officer for the Riverside-Albert Fire Department for more than 50 years. He recently retired with 35 years plus service as school bus driver for Hillsborough and Anglophone East School District. Darrell has also served on numerous Albert County boards including the Albert County Exhibition, Albert County Community Pasture, Hopewell Hill Cemetery, and Zone Woodlot Owners Group.
KATHRYN WEIR is known to “find ways to get things done”, and for her “long standing service to the people of Fundy Albert and the province of New Brunswick.” Kathryn was a paramedic for decades beginning when it was a volunteer operation. She has also actively celebrated and promoted New Brunswick tourism and its development in this area and is a two term President of the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick. Kathryn is currently Board Chair of Forest Dale Nursing Home and is a member of the Chipoudy Communities Revitalization Committee (CCRC). The Albert County Exhibition, Cape Enrage, Fundy Curling Club and Shepody Food Bank have also benefited from her volunteerism.
