Connecting Albert County has been in operation since December 2014, when its website was launched, and began publishing its first regular newsletter in January of 2015. CAC's creation resulted from needs identified during many community meetings and discussions held between 2009 and that date. It was spearheaded by a group of passionate community members that included Joanne Butland, Deborah Carr, Joseph Gallant, Barb Gebuhr, Livia Goodbrand, Lynne Greenblatt, Mindy Holmstrom, Susan Quinn, Phyllis Sutherland, Janine Underhill, Janet Wallace, Micha Fardy (then representing the United Way Greater Moncton SENB) and Joanna Brown (then representing the Westmorland-Albert Community Inclusion Network). From the get-go, it received further support from the Albert County Health and Wellness Center, with substantial funding by The Bennett and Albert County Health Care Foundation. CAC was truly created by the community, for the community, with care, intention, and dedication.
- We celebrate our culture, environment, and sense of community.
- We are open and inclusive.
- We share information and local knowledge.
- We promote learning opportunities and community events.
- We value cultural diversity.
- We encourage the pursuit of health and wellness in our community.
Connecting Albert County is so grateful for the support of community. To each business, organization, and individual, who has taken advertisements, given financial support by donation, and who intentionally makes supporting this small rural community publication a priority, we want to express our gratitude. Without you, this would still be a dream being discussed at meetings. Instead, we have a growing publication, we have almost a decade of stories shared, events engaged with, and memories collected. It is you who helps keep us connected both by what you do everyday and in supporting grassroots community non-profits like ours.
We would be remiss to not specifically mention the generous contributions of The Bennett and Albert County Health Care Foundation. For almost 10 years you have been a stalwart partner in putting feet to the vision of a Connected Albert County. The BACH Foundation makes a positive impact on health and wellness on the people of Albert County in so many ways. They provide needed equipment for the Health and Wellness Center, support staff learning and education, and fund a variety of community projects including youth initiatives in the high school, and emergency medical equipment for other non-profits in our region, such as providing the support for the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator for the Albert County Museum. At Connecting Albert County, we encourage all to consider supporting the fundraising efforts of the Bennett in Albert County Health Care Foundation. For more information on how to do this, or to learn more about their organization, please go to their website www.bachfoundation.com, call 506-882-3100, or email [email protected].
We would like to thank all the volunteers who have contributed hours of their valuable time in building and growing Connecting Albert County. A variety of individuals have served on its Board of Directors and so many community members have written articles, shared stories and recipes, and advertised events! We appreciate your dedication, your expertise, and your efforts. We are grateful for the contribution of past coordinators and editors. Janet Wallace served for many years and provided a plethora of editorial and professional writing experience, and a passion for nature and our environment. Amanda Rossiter served with a love of her community, a connection to the people, and youth, from one end of the country to the other. We are grateful for everything you both did to forward our vision and mission.
It is an exciting time to be part of Albert County, and we are looking forward to continuing to build connections between all of us, from Elgin to Alma, from Riverview to Riverside-Albert, from Hillsborough to New Horton, and everywhere in between!
We can't do this without YOUR help! Many hands make light, and joyful work. If you have any interest in community service, we would love to hear from you. We look for fact checkers, proofreaders, photographers, writers, event coordinators, publication delivery people, advertisers, board members, social media gurus, website designers - basically, if you have a skill, I'm sure we can find a way to use it! We also have a lot of fun! Please reach out and find your place at Connecting Albert County.
And as always, please share the work that we do. Grab a copy for your neighbour, share our Facebook posts, or sign up for the online email to receive the publication directly to your inbox. We are grateful for your assistance in spreading the word and connecting Albert County!
On behalf of myself, our Board of Directors, and all of us who work together on CAC, we wish you a Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and a New Year of Health and Happiness!
