A Day in the Life!
Inspired by Melody, after sharing about writers block not knowing what to write about this month, she suggested I do a day in the life. I couldn’t quite narrow down a day, and things are so different from day to day or week to week. But here’s a glimpse into a week in the life of a Community Developer, working in Fundy Albert, Salisbury, Havelock, and Three Rivers:
Last week, Linda Lindsay and Laurette Kelly popped in while they were out delivering hot-of-the-press copies of a Fundy Albert area resource pamphlet that we developed with the support of the Chipoudy Community Revitalization Committee and Connecting Albert County. Be sure to pick up your copy at one of the upcoming neighbourhood socials! Last week, on my way to Riverside-Albert I stopped at Cinnamon Soul Café for a coffee meeting with Melody at Connecting Albert County. This was a chance to connect, share work that we’re up to, discuss grants and future opportunities for Connecting Albert County, to see what work I can support and vice versa.
On Friday, I did some regional work, where some of us in the “biz” (Community Development work) get together for what we call a “Super Duper Fun Fun”. The goal is to build relationships and enhance our collaborative work together within Southeast NB, all while having fun. We had lunch together in Sackville, then had a meeting with Nursing Home Without Walls there, and another with Dorchester’s Station 8 to learn about the work they do. This is an opportunity to develop relationships, to share and learn what’s happening in our region, and to increase collaboration in the work we do that often overlaps and intertwines. I’m looking forward to hosting one of these afternoons in Fundy Albert soon.
Well, you might be thinking “a week in the life”... but that was just Wednesday and Friday! Each week looks a lot different than the one before, which is what I love about this work. The rest of the week was spent attending different committee meetings, exploring placement options for nursing students out of Beal University (a new partnership that will see more nursing students working in our communities), and keeping up on emails and some of the smaller tasks and follow-ups of the week.
I’m always happy to connect with the community, to hear your ideas, or even your challenges. So please reach out at any time to chat about your ideas, or maybe you just want to know where the name “Super Duper Fun Fun” came from!
