For nearly 60 years, the New Brunswick Senior Citizens’ Federation (NBSCF) has worked to support seniors across the province — in small villages, rural communities, and towns just like those found throughout Albert County. As more New Brunswickers grow older, the work of speaking up for seniors has become more important than ever.
Many seniors want the same thing: to stay healthy, remain in their own homes as long as possible, stay connected to their communities, and have access to the services they need. At the same time, rural areas often face added challenges, such as longer travel distances, fewer services close to home, limited transportation, and social isolation. These are the realities the NBSCF brings forward when advocating on behalf of seniors.
The Federation will hold its 58th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Legends Room of the Moncton Coliseum. This annual meeting brings together representatives from over a hundred 50+ clubs and seniors’ groups from across New Brunswick. It is a chance to look back on the past year, plan for the future, and decide together what issues should be brought to government leaders. This year’s meeting will also include the election of a new Federation President.
Last month, the Federation welcomed the appointment of a Minister dedicated solely to Seniors, something seniors’ organizations have been calling for over many years. The NBSCF is pleased to see Lyne Chantal Boudreau in this role, which recognizes both the growing number of seniors in New Brunswick and their unique needs. This change is a positive step, but the Federation also stresses the importance of continued consultation and real action, especially for seniors living in rural and remote areas.
Since we do not receive funding from the government, the NBSCF’s advocacy work is made possible in part through its membership cards ($10/year) and provincial 50/50 lottery ($2/week). Proceeds help support outreach, education, and advocacy efforts across the province. The lottery is open to anyone 19 years of age or older living in New Brunswick — you do not need to be a senior or a member to participate. For more information on membership or our 50/50 draw, contact Lise or Anne at the NBSCF office at 1-800-453-4333.
Supporting seniors means supporting our neighbours, our families, and our communities. By working together, we can help ensure that New Brunswick remains a good place to grow older — not only in cities, but in rural communities like Albert County as well.
