Ever wonder who Fundy Tourism or Albert County Tourism Association are and what they do?
After a long time association with the name ACTA, Albert County Tourism Association recently re-branded as Fundy Tourism, with the byline: “Albert County, Where Nature Inspires”. Old habits may die hard, and as Shakespeare asked, “What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” What is important to note is that Fundy Tourism is comprised of members and a board of directors who work tirelessly to advocate for their members and to attract visitors to this beautiful area along the Bay of Fundy.
Established in the middle of the last century by business owners, the association has a long history of advocating for business owners, Cape Enrage, Mary’s Point Bird Sanctuary, and the federal and provincial parks - Fundy National Park and The Rocks Provincial Park that are all a vital part of what brings visitors to this county. Advocating for tourism concerns is, fortunately, advocating for community improvements that we all benefit from, like decent roads or reliable internet !!
An important contribution to local tourism is the creation of the Locator Map, showing all members’ businesses with a numbered dot on the map, coinciding with a legend that tells the type of business – accommodation, food, adventure, etc. This Locator Map is published both online and in print. It is highly sought after for those visitors who want to make the most of their time in the county. Many residents use this map for their visitors and as a local directory.
An event that is highly anticipated by a more local group of people is the annual Christmas in the Country, held the first weekend of December each year. This festival provides an opportunity for a wide variety of small business owners, crafters and artists, food creators and vendors to sell their products to a willing market. Restaurants are open, many offer special pricing, as do accommodations. This weekend is organized by Fundy Tourism. It contributes significantly to the economics of this area, especially for a home crafter to earn extra money without the heavy costs of renting a storefront or building.
