Fundy Curling Club End of Season Wrap Up

With the last stones of the season delivered, the lights in the ice shed gone dark and the ice slowly melting it is time to look back on what can be best described as a season of firsts for the FCC!

If you have driven by the club on a Sunday afternoon this winter and noticed the club parking lot full of cars it is because this is the first time ever we have had an active Little Rocks and U18 program operating on Sunday afternoons. Both programs were a huge success with 22 youth participating in the ten sessions learning all they ever wanted to know about curling but were afraid to ask. The season wrapped up with a season ending party with many of our FCC members coming in to cheer the kids on. Thanks to all the volunteer coaches. We are already looking forward to next year.

Support for Seniors in the Community

Do you know a senior in our community that could use some support? 
As we move through the fall season, please take a moment to reflect on the seniors in our community. When you think about your elderly neighbor, friend or family member ask yourself if they seem okay? Do they need anything? If you think there is a need, reach out to the team at Forest Dale Home Inc. We have heard numerous stories about seniors in need, some examples are;

An older farmer that avoids the stairs in his home because of bad knees. This means he can’t bathe in the only full washroom (on the 2nd level) in his home, so he resorts to a sponge bath in the main level half bath or kitchen.
A senior couple having a hard time paying their oil bill in the fall / winter, so they spend less on groceries. They end up eating more processed foods versus nutritious food.
An individual’s family has moved away, and they have no mode of transportation. Because of this they don’t have regular access to hair care, foot care or dental hygiene.

Some seniors have no family in the area and / or their spouse may have passed. This can lead to feelings of loneliness or social isolation and possibly depression. There are more examples but with this article we wanted to highlight a few to get you thinking.

Support Care Assistant Program

Did you know that now is the perfect time to look at the healthcare industry?

The Support Care Assistant Program provides up to $5,000 to continue your studies in a Personal Support Worker program.

The Supportive Care Assistant program is subsidized 6-week training offered entirely online! It leads to an 8-week paid internship. Please note that candidates, who must be fully vaccinated to be admitted, must pay a processing fee of $50. Registration is continuous entry.

“There is an urgent need for our healthcare workforce and our governments are working hard to recruit and train quality employees,” said Julie Cyr, Dean of CCNB’s School of Health and Community Services.

Forest Dale Home Board

Forest Dale Home has played an important role in Riverside-Albert since the original home opened in 1980. It has grown to a 50-bed, long-term care facility which is the major employer in the area. The people who work at the home provide outstanding care to the residents who can no longer live on their own. A heartfelt thanks goes out to all the staff who provide the hands-on care in a safe and home-like environment that has made Forest Dale Home a desired, long-term care facility in the community.

At that time, I thanked our volunteers for their continued support and dedication to our residents here at Forest Dale Home (FDH). My article contained much praise and appreciation for their contributions -- many programs are only possible with the help of our volunteers.

As the rays of the sun enter the Brookside Room, a popular winter sport continues throughout the warmer months — no ice is needed. The much anticipated curling game hosted by volunteers Elaine and Alan Demaline attracts many residents and affects two very important factors in their lives — their physical and social well- being.
