It's the start of summer in Albert County and what a great place to be! The many beaches provide beautiful places to stroll and appreciate the cooling offshore breezes. Gardeners are enjoying the "salad days of summer" while looking forward to the bounty to come. And, we're anticipating a loosening of COVID-19 restrictions. All is good! The area served by the CCRC is from Alma through to the upper Albert Mines Road.

I will be selling books this summer at the orange building at the Artisan's Village in Hillsborough. All proceeds from the book sales will go to the Hillsborough Kiwanis. We are looking for donations of gently used books. If you have books to donate, you can drop them off at the Kiwanis Community Centre (47 Legion Street, Hillsborough) on Wednesdays from 10am-2pm and on Thursdays from 10am-6pm.

The Chipoudy Community Revitalization Committee (CCRC) is pleased to announce the formation of a welcome committee for newcomers to the area. It is our hope that a warm Albert County welcome will help newcomers find a true home in the area and encourage them to take advantage of all that Albert County has to offer from attractions, social clubs and recreation to local shopping. As the days grow longer, the trees leaf out and the gardens are getting planted, it's time to celebrate June in Albert County.

that officially transitions the reform process to the engagement phase. Working Together for Vibrant and Sustainable Communities is designed to present options that will foster discussion with New Brunswickers on how to improve the local governance system. Currently, there are 104 local governments, 236 local service districts and 12 regional service commissions in the province. However, more than 30% of the population does not have elected representation on a local government.

Nominations for candidates are still open but a few people have already thrown their hats into the ring. Bob Rochon, Melody Land and Tyler Bickford all explained in 200 words what they aim to do in their village if elected. The submissions are printed in the order we received them. We will provide more election coverage in the May issue. There is a fundraiser on behalf of Samantha Sanford and her family. On March 14, 2021, Samantha's "family lost everything in a house fire. She has two boys who are 5 and 7, and a girl who is 12. They have got lots of support from family and community, however they need to start from scratch. Any little amount is helpful. We do thank everyone who has helped and donated clothes they are very appreciated. Also to note, no, they didn't have insurance on the house unfortunately."

Winter Carnival founder Don Coleman says, “Thanks to all of our sponsors, these benches have created a special legacy for the citizens of Hillsborough.” Surplus donations from the Albert County Winter Carnival sponsors were used to purchase and engrave the benches, which are in Peace Park on Main Street. Two Hillsborough-area businesses, Brunswick Limestone and Maritime Monument Works, provided the benches and engraving. Contributed by Ruth Bradford The Fundy Studio Tour presents the 19th Annual Christmas in the Country event with a difference! “Christmas in the Country” is a tour of open art and artisan studios, farmers’ markets, museums, bakers, restaurants, winery, brewers and more. The tour offers visitors the best of Albert County and this year, for the first time, the event runs over two weekends! On two weekends (November 28th-29th and December 5th-6th) from Riverview to Alma, Albert County welcomes you. Hours are 10am-5pm on Saturdays and 11am-4pm on Sundays. Women of the Wilderness (WOW), a local hiking/camping/ outdoor group, has created a 12-month calendar of gorgeous nature photos from the area taken by WOW's amateur photographers. Calendars will be available in early December in time for Christmas giving.
