This is the treasure collected along a 2 km stretch of Cape Enrage Road on April 4. Since we hadn’t had a chance to clean up this stretch since the first snowfall, it’s probably safe to assume that the trash accumulated over the winter, and therefore was probably tossed by locals, not tourists. 80% of the bottles and cans were alcoholic beverage containers. Draw your own conclusions regarding the state of drivers on our local roads.
In a curious counterpoint to the beer cans, we also picked up dozens of empty Tim Horton’s coffee cups. Is this perhaps a feeble attempt to counteract the effects of the alcohol? By the way, the closest Tim Horton’s is over an hour away. It boggles the mind how so many of their cups end up on our roadsides.
We are trying hard to attract visitors to our beautiful and pristine little corner of the world. Turning it into a trash heap is not the way to do it. We all have a responsibility to keep Albert County beautiful. Stop littering!!! And if you see litter on the road as you walk by, stop and pick it up. You might even make a few dollars by redeeming it at the recycling centre!

We want to keep a tally of litter collected in rural Albert County... or at least the funds redeemed by returning bottles and cans. To start...the total deposits redeemed from trash collected from 6.5 km of Albert County roads since fall of 2015 is $124.20. Report what you found to [email protected]
