Belated Happy New Year from the Board of Directors of the Shepody Food Bank! We would like to take this opportunity to share with you some highlights from the past year.
Shepody Food Bank, located at the Albert County Community Health Centre in Riverside-Albert, serves the catchment area from the Village of Alma up to and including the Upper Albert Mines Road in Edgetts Landing, and the Caledonia Mountain Road from Riverside-Albert up to Route 910 in Rosevale.
We are open every Wednesday from 1-3pm, serving clients on a first-come, first-served basis. Clients may visit once a month for assistance and will receive six days' worth of food for each individual in the household.
In 2022, we served over 80 households comprising 170 individuals in need, giving out almost 23,000 meals. Almost 30% of the people we serve are minors and around 20% are seniors.
- The Albert County Community Health Centre and their parent company, Horizon Health, for having hosted our food bank for well over a decade, giving us the space, facilities and support necessary to operate.
- New Brunswick Food Depot Alimentaire for their excellent stewardship of the provincial food banking system.
- Neighbouring food banks-Albert County Food Bank in Riverview and SPOT in Petitcodiac for generously sharing their resources in times of need.
- TransAlta Kent Hills Facility management and employees, The Christmas Shoppe in Riverview (Micheal McBurnie), SPOT Petitcodiac, Longhorn Transport , the Riverside-Albert Baptist Church, and Saint Mary's Anglican Church for their generous and much appreciated financial contributions.
Many, many other individuals, businesses and churches in the area have donated regularly for the past several years. This year they collectively donated ~4300 pounds of food as well as monetary contributions. For reasons of privacy, we can't name them all, but they have our most heartfelt thanks.
Finally, and most importantly, we would like to thank our crew of more than 30 volunteers. These dedicated and hard-working individuals have given over 1,000 hours of their time and efforts to keep the facilities in order, maintain records, purchase groceries, unload the delivery truck, stock and restock shelves, pack food hampers for clients, and perform countless other tasks necessary every week for us to fulfill our mission.
Shepody Food Bank could not exist without them.
To all our sponsors, donors, supporters, and volunteers - you have our undying gratitude!
We wish you all a very happy, healthy New Year!!!
