2026 marks the Royal Canadian Legion’s centenary year. Founded in 1925, the Legion brought various Veterans groups that were created following WWl under one umbrella, and incorporated in July of 1926 as the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League.

This incorporation was more than just a formality; it allowed the Legion to expand support to Veterans, establish branches, advocate for the rights of Veterans, and take a leading role in Remembrance services.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 32 – Hillsborough Remembrance Day Service 2023

30/6/2023

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day owing to the tradition of wearing a remembrance poppy) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War in 1919 to honor those who paid the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The day is also marked by war remembrances in several other non-Commonwealth countries.

In Canada, Remembrance Day is observed on November 11 to recall the end of First World War hostilities, which formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918, in accordance with the armistice signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. ("At the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 am.) The First World War officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919.
