Each team paddled to raise money for various charities and organizations, including Forest Dale home activities, the Shepody Food Bank, the Fundy Curling Club, the Alma Fire Department, RCS playground equipment and Tele-Drive Albert County.
The winners of the race were the Broadleaf Broncos, with cash winnings of $240. In second place were the River Drivers with winnings of $144 and in third place were the Forest Dale flyers with winnings of $98.
The Best Dressed team was the River Drivers, with matching red and white shirts. They also were voted ‘Most Sportsmanlike,’ and gave some of their prizes to other teams.
The consolation race saw the Alma Pumpers, the RCS Rowers and BroadView Powersports compete, with BroadView taking the lead and winning tickets to the Curling Club’s steak dinner, donated by Crooked Creek Adventures.
The 50/50 draw raised $104.70, which was divided equally and given to each team. Prizes were also donated by Cape Enrage, Fundy National Park, the Hopewell Rocks and the Chipoudy Communities Revitalization Committee.
The fourth annual Kayak Races were a great success with excellent weather and awesome participants and donors – thanks to everyone who came out!
