It seems like it was just yesterday that our ice makers were hard at work getting everything ready for the 2024 season. But here we are already heading into March and the final four weeks of curling. With just a month to go this is a great time to fill you in on what has happened at the club so far this year and what lies ahead until we hit April Fool’s Day.
We started off in December with our drive to welcome back existing members and attract as many new faces as possible. Fantastic news for all of us at the club as our membership numbers just keep on climbing. With curling happening every night of the week, youth curling on Sundays and special events some Saturdays, the club is clearly the place to be this winter and we are now just shy of 110 members. This is our highest number of members in over 20 years!

After a few weeks of curling through December and January the stage was set for our annual Mixed Bonspiel which is our biggest event of the season. The event was held from January 26th to the 28th with twelve teams competing for the championship. After 3 days of great curling, congratulations go out to the team of Chris McKinley, Kim McKinley, Loretta Elderkin and Danny Hudson as they came out victorious in the final that was decided on the very last shot of the game! The weekend was filled with more than just curling as all participants were treated to fantastic food over the three days, incredible prizes donated by local businesses and lots of laughs in the clubhouse after the games. Thanks to all who organised this wonderful event.
The FCC was thrilled to partner with the Friends of Fundy on Sunday Feb. 11th in welcoming artist Caitlin Wilson from Maplewood Studio to the club. Caitlin put on a fantastic workshop where participants created and took home their very own one-of-a-kind t-shirt featuring designs inspired by pollinators, the night sky and of course….curling!
Looking ahead to March we will be kicking things off with our one-day Open Bonspiel to be held on Saturday March 2nd. Be sure to drop into the club and take in some of the ice action that will be happening all day as teams compete to come out on top in this fun and exciting Bonspiel. Can’t make it on the 2nd? No problem, come by any Friday evening to grab a ticket for Chase the Ace and check out some of the curling action while waiting for the draw. Hope to see you then!
