Congratulations to Sara Liptay, Sistema NB Teaching Artist and Director of the Hillsborough Sistema Centre. Sara was presented with Music NB’s Educator of the Year Award for her work to empower children through music. She shares the award with Eva George of the Charlotte Street Art Centre in Fredericton.
The awards were handed out in October at Music NB’s gala event in Caraquet.
Sara was Sistema NB’s first teaching artist. She taught 50 students in a room at Beaverbrook School in Moncton. A community builder, she has helped to grow the program, which is now in 10 centres across the province.

“The past ten years working with Sistema NB have been exciting and life-changing, not only for me but for the students who pass through the Sistema program,” Sara said, in accepting the honour. “It is especially rewarding watching our students become not only great musicians, but great citizens of this province, who seek out opportunities to give back.”
