In Albert County, we have world class seafood, attractions, artists, and of course, the highest tides in the world. But have you ever stopped to think about and truly appreciate all the incredibly talented musicians we have right here close to home?
This winter, Lynn Colepaugh of Riverview had the brilliant idea to put together a Spotify playlist featuring musicians who are either native to Albert County or who currently call this beautiful corner of the world home.
This winter, Lynn Colepaugh of Riverview had the brilliant idea to put together a Spotify playlist featuring musicians who are either native to Albert County or who currently call this beautiful corner of the world home.
What started as a presentation to use as background music between live performances at the Albert County Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards Gala in April has continued to grow long after the Gala ended.
“Once I started digging for music, I found a treasure trove of artists from Albert County that were too good to be listened to for just one night!” said Lynn. She added that she hopes the playlist remains a project in continual evolution so we can keep adding more releases and widening our understanding of our own musical footprint in Atlantic Canada.
With an extensive background in music (both on the stage and in a management role), Lynn’s inspiration for the playlist came predominantly from her past work with regional and provincial non-profit groups promoting the outstanding musicians we have right here on the East Coast. Her first step in consolidating the Albert County Music Playlist was a visit to the Music New Brunswick website for a search through the membership to find regional artists. This initial online search was followed by a poll on Facebook asking for names of artists from Albert County so that she could then look them up individually on Spotify.
The last step was some “good old-fashioned Google research” to ensure the playlist was as comprehensive as possible, including artists existing under the radar and off the beaten path.
“There are still a good 30-50% of artists in or from Albert County who haven’t released online so sadly they aren’t on the list,” says Lynn. “My hope is that they take the plunge so that they can be added soon!”
