A trail used by locals, tourists and the students of Riverside Consolidated School (RCS) has a fascinating history and an exciting future!
Hunter Butland, a local student, won the New Brunswick Museum Award of Merit at the Regional Heritage Fair in 2016 for his story board. He prepared the collection of pictures and information with the help of local history buff Beulah Morrissey.
The trail is an amazing place to walk, bike or ride a horse along the banks of the Shepody River, across the marshes, and along Chignecto Bay. Currently the trail runs to the end of Shepody where retired railway worker Howard Weir still maintains the trail as a volunteer and removes wind falls and debris.
Our area is excited over tentative plans to extend this end of the trail all the way to Hopewell Rocks. The extension will complete the first portion of the proposed shoreline trail linking Shediac with the Bay of Fundy.
Albert County’s 175th is a fitting year for this poster board to be erected to ensure the preservation of this story as part of our heritage.
