One challenge MP Lockhart has heard from seniors in Fundy Royal is preparing healthy meals for themselves, especially for single seniors.
Chipoudy Communities Revitalization Committee (CCRC) saw the same problem for seniors in Albert County. They began their Lifelong Learning Program to help seniors gain valuable skills in the kitchen. Thanks to their hard work, seniors are engaging with community members, while learning how to prepare healthy meals for themselves: skills that will enable them to stay in their homes longer.
The CCRC received financial support to continue the growth of their seniors’ programming, announced Alaina Lockhart, Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, on behalf of the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Seniors.
The CCRC is receiving $9,000 for their project funded through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). The project will help many seniors in Albert County. The CCRC is using the funding for their lifelong learning programming to have seniors more involved in the community through cooking classes and their new project of connecting seniors with the younger generation through the creation of interviews with digital technology.
The NHSP promotes positive aging by supporting seniors’ volunteerism and encouraging seniors to play an active role in their communities. This innovative program enhances seniors’ social well-being and enables them to maintain social ties and share their knowledge, skills and experience with others.
