Sad News for Albert County: Tele-Drive runs no more

After six successful years, Tele-Drive is forced to discontinue its service. This impacts all our users of affordable transportation in Albert County, leaving 120 households without transportation to medical appointments, visits to food banks, shopping and other vital appointment needs.

Tele-Drive wants to express their disappointment, sadness and disbelief that the Province has drastically reduced their financial support to enable them to continue. In the Province’s effort to take over affordable transportation from Tele-Drive and another volunteer driver organization they failed to meet their financial promises for this transition, leaving Tele-Drive without the necessary funds to continue to provide reliable and sustainable service.

Safe Affordable Housing

The 2016 Albert County Community Health Needs Assessment identified the need for safe affordable housing. To address this need, the Safe Affordable Housing Committee was established to (i) assess the actual needs for housing; and (ii) recommend a strategy by which these needs could be met. The members of the committee include the mayors of the three municipalities; Phyllis Hudson and Joe Gallant from the Albert County Health and Wellness Centre; and Roy Ries from the Chipoudy Communities Revitalization Committee. In addition, Stephen Davies, President of Atlantic Peoples’ Housing Ltd., was invited to act as an advisor.

Hillsborough Market 2019

The Hillsborough Farmers Market, now in its’ 3rd year, is home to small local businesses including crafters, producers, artisans and makers, as well as Oliver’s German Bakery.
You can often hear the musical talents of Fundy Ceilidh accompanying you as you browse or sit for a Buddha Bear coffee and a home-made treat. The beautiful atmosphere at 2807 Main St. Hillsborough with the stained glass windows, vaulted wooden ceilings and friendly chatter is a cozy place to gather with friends and catch up.

New Faces at Forest Dale

Forest Dale Home was recently recognized for showing “exceptional leadership in recruiting Internationally Educated Nurses” by the New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes in May 2019. The award came after Forest Dale Home was approved as a Designated Employer by the Province of New Brunswick to participate in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program.

Shepody Day 2019

The Village of Riverside-Albert will host the 9th annual Shepody Day Celebration on Saturday,
July 13th. This is a community event with activities for all ages. This year’s celebration will highlight the Shepody River and its historical importance in our village. Kayak race teams will be raising money for the Riverside-Albert Community Playground Project.

Shearing of Alpacas 2019

FarmLife Studio and B&B will be holding its annual Shearing of the Alpacas and BBQ on Sunday, June 9th from 1 to 4 pm. A team of experts will be on hand to answer all questions regarding alpacas. There will also be a large array of alpaca products available for sale. It’s a free event. FarmLife Studio is located at 474 Albert Mines Road. For more information, c all Ruth at 734-3493.
