In March 2020, Alma was listed as one of the “15 Top-Rated Small Towns in Canada” by planetware.com.
The village was described as “the gateway to the world-famous high tides of the Bay of Fundy” and also as “a great spot to grab a bite to eat after a hike in the park (try the sticky buns — everyone in town raves about them, and for good reason).”

A tasty tidbit of history...Miriam Kelly developed the famous sticky bun and created "Kelly’s Bake Shop,” which has brought visitors to Alma for more than 70 years. Miriam started with a recipe that dates back to around 1900 for “spudnuts,” doughnut-like buns made with mashed potatoes. She launched the treats in 1957, the year the Russian Sputnik was launched, and originally wanted to call the buns, iced with white frosting, “Spudniks.” However Miriam changed the dough recipe because the potato component created a long and laborious step, and then called her creation a “sticky bun.”
The sticky buns are still favourites of locals and visitors. In fact, on the August long weekend this year (yes, during a pandemic), Kelly’s Bake Shop sold an incredible 10,872 sticky buns!
