Monday's municipal elections were not the only exercise in democracy going on in Albert. The People's Alliance of New Brunswick, which describes its mission as being to "re-establish the true meaning of democracy in our Province by allowing the voice of the people to be heard", was holding a riding meeting at the Pine Glen Community Center. The meeting was held from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and was a chance for party members and the general public to discuss issues of concern to them.
About 23 people attended the meeting. Tim Lyons, Provincial Riding Association President for the party, spoke first and outlined the dire problems facing the province, as well as the need for a riding association to be established in Albert. Several people brought up concerns about youth out-migration and the effects it was having on families and communities. Others spoke on the need to end corporate welfare and government waste. Still others spoke on the school bus controversy and problems with Duality.
Tim Lyons promised that there would be more meetings with the aim of having a riding association up and running before the end of the year. He noted that the party has in the past lacked 'ground game' during elections and emphasized that it won't take just one person to fix the province, it will take everyone.
