The Tour of Elgin is New Brunswick’s only and toughest mountain bike marathon and it’s coming up October 3 right here in Albert County!
There are different length options though for all levels of riders, with 4 different races. There are 20 km, 40 km, 80 km and the 120 km races to choose from. There is also a race for kids. Ages of the participants range from 10 to 60, so it is definitely open to everyone!

The races are put on by the Elgin Eco Association as a fundraiser for their environmental initiatives. There is a fee for entering and prizes (and bragging rights) available. As the Association’s website says, “The course covers all different types of surfaces, with limited pavement, lots of fast double track (40%), dirt roads (50%) and some great single track (10%). The course is well marked. There are also all-terrain support vehicles, first aid on site and neutral feed stations.”
Since the races have become more popular, they are limiting the registration to 200 people, with participants coming from all over the Maritimes, some from Ontario and from the U.S.
Limited accommodation (mainly camping) is available in Elgin and race participants can receive 15% off overnight accommodation at Fundy National Park.
