The District Education Council decided unanimously to keep Riverside Consolidate School open!
The decision follows two months of hard work by passionate volunteers. They have been working hard to convince the District Education Council that the school is essential to the social fabric and economy of rural Albert County, and that putting elementary students on buses for three hours a day is, to say the least, unwise.
While celebrating our victory, we must keep in mind that our work has just begun. The school has to be considered to be sustainable. Possible options include increasing student enrollment, generating other income by renting out school space, and strengthening the connection between the school and the community by transforming the building into a multi-use community hub.
We are fortunate that rural Albert County is rich in creative and talented people who can work together to create a viable solution.
Riverside Consolidated School has been in operation for more than a century, and we can envision a great role for the school for decades to come.
