Health care, especially affordable dental care, is a very common inquiry for 211 Service Navigators. They are always happy to give information on new programs that can help their callers and can even directly connect them with the program that they are seeking.

In 2013, our broader community came together to look at our collective assets and strengths and identify gaps that we could work on together to fill. One of those gaps was communication and linking together our cluster of Villages and communities. In May 2014, community members came together again and agreed that this would be the priority that we spent our collective efforts on and thus, the Fundy Communication Network was born. Submitted by: Melody Land When the air is crisp, the leaves have fallen, and geese gather themselves for their yearly trip south, thoughts turn toward upcoming special days: Halloween, Remembrance Day, and then Christmas! Christmas is a widely celebrated event where family and community traditions blend in harmony. School concerts, special dinners, holiday parties, music events, charity donations, and travel plans loom over many of us by mid November, and before we know it we are knee deep in coloured lights, festive ribbon, and list upon list of things to do, places to go, and stuff to buy.
The most festive event of the season is almost here! Join us for the Annual Hillsborough Christmas Parade in honour of Lois Snider on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 6:30 pm.
Come see dazzling floats, twinkling lights, and holiday cheer as we celebrate the most wonderful time of the year! Don't miss out on this heart warming event! Mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable holiday tradition. Parade route begins at the Hillsborough Elementary School parking lot, continues onto Academy Street, down Main Street, and ends at Steeves Street. Please join Santa at the Kiwanis Centre after the parade for hot chocolate and candy! If you would like to register a float, please contact Becky Snider at 506-961-7529. by Melody Land, CAC Coordinator
Connecting Albert County has been in operation since December 2014, when its website was launched, and began publishing its first regular newsletter in January of 2015. CAC's creation resulted from needs identified during many community meetings and discussions held between 2009 and that date. It was spearheaded by a group of passionate community members that included Joanne Butland, Deborah Carr, Joseph Gallant, Barb Gebuhr, Livia Goodbrand, Lynne Greenblatt, Mindy Holmstrom, Susan Quinn, Phyllis Sutherland, Janine Underhill, Janet Wallace, Micha Fardy (then representing the United Way Greater Moncton SENB) and Joanna Brown (then representing the Westmorland-Albert Community Inclusion Network). From the get-go, it received further support from the Albert County Health and Wellness Center, with substantial funding by The Bennett and Albert County Health Care Foundation. CAC was truly created by the community, for the community, with care, intention, and dedication. The first weekend of December includes the last day of November – Saturday November 30 and Sunday December 1. All money made will be used to help veterans and their families in the Albert County region. November brings many things to the region of Albert County: beauty as the earth puts herself to rest for another season, the grasp of frost that holds the promise of forthcoming snow, the whir of snowmobiles being uncovered and tuned up replaces the roar of motorcycles now being housed for the winter, folks start thinking of holidays ahead with school plays, markets, decorating, and shopping on the mind, and the squirrels seem to scamper a little faster to fill every crook and cranny they can find with cones, nuts, and other goodies to last them for the winter. However, there is a time where all of these things pause, we don our poppies, and our community joins together with the rest of Canada to honour our soldiers and remember.
Submitted by: Margie Murphy If you have not yet seen it, the symbol of Remembrance Day - the POPPY - will be evident throughout your community soon. Local businesses will be partnering with the Legion to offer Poppy pins for you to purchase and display on your lapels. This gesture reflects our gratitude to those who have served in both World Wars, Afghanistan, Peace Keepers, and our active Armed Forces. As well as Poppy pins, crosses and wreaths can be purchased in memory of beloved veterans. Call the Legion at 506 734 2289 on Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday to place your order or for further information. Submitted by: Ian Duncan, Program and Events Coordinator

For the last couple of years I have had the pleasure of serving as the part-time editor of this Connecting Albert County Newsletter. It has been an interesting endeavor in my life and I have learned a great deal by partaking in this role. At this time, my children’s activities, and my own full time career, have to take priority and I can no longer give this newsletter the time that it takes to provide a proper recurring edition. I have decided to step away from the newsletter and this will be my final solo edition. The incoming editor will do an excellent job with it and I look forward to seeing what she has planned for future editions.
I want to thank everyone who has helped me to produce this over the last couple years. I’ve met some amazing people, and learned an incredible amount about what is offered and what is happening in our area. I also want to thank the incredible volunteers, from proofreaders to website posters, from writers to board members and everyone in between. You are all amazing and CAC is lucky to have you all. Thank you again for subscribing and supporting this newsletter. I hope you will continue to do so and I look forward to what comes next for CAC!!! Are you itching to get moving, get out of the house, and looking for something fulfilling to do? Forest Dale Nursing Home has an amazing opportunity to give back to seniors in our community through their volunteer program. Social connection and interaction benefit not only the residents, but the staff and volunteers themselves. Volunteers contribute to a vibrant and connected nursing home community. As one volunteer said, "We feel the more volunteers that are in the home, the more residents will still feel part of their community. The community where many of them spent their lives working, raising families, and even volunteering themselves". Human connection keeps us healthy, happy and fulfilled.
There are many activities offered at Forest Dale Nursing home, including: walking programs, Bingo, bowling/curling, baking, music events, special events etc. Or maybe you have an idea or something you are passionate about that you would like to share with the residents! Maybe you’d be interested in running a crochet/knit club, gardening club, card games, art club, the possibilities are endless! Forest Dale has a keen interest in opportunities for intergenerational activities as well! Bring your kiddos and bring your babes and do friendly visits.
